چکیده
Optical fiber communication is gaining popularity as broadband technology by providing high data rate, secure and reliable transmission. With the advent of HD videos and latency sensitive services, the demand for optical networks for the individual subscribers is increasing. For the purpose, FTTH is emerging as a viable solution. This paper focuses on various possibilities in optical networks, its implementation in local loop and network planning considerations. Keywords— Broadband, fiber, FTTH, optical, PON

Design of Arrayed Waveguide Grating based Optical Switch for High Speed Optical Networks
This paper demonstrates the design of an Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (AWG) based optical switch. In the design both physical and network layer analysis is performed. The physical layer power and noise analysis is done to obtain Bit Error Rate (BER). This has been found that at the higher bit rates, BER is not affected with number of buffer modules. Network layer analysis is done to obtain perfor...
متن کاملRATO-Net: A Random-Access Protocol for Unidirectional Ultra-High-speed Optical Fiber Network
The local network medium is a pair of unidirectional fiber optic busses to which stations are conneted via passive taps. For this configuration, a new random-access protocol called RATO (randomaccess, time-out) is presented in this paper. This RATO provides random-access, fairness, and bounded delay access to all stations, and is particularly suited for ultra-high-speed transmission when the pe...
متن کاملTransport of Assigned Wavelength Channels Over Ultra-high Speed Ethernet All-Optical DWDM Networks Under Constraints of Fiber Chromatic and Polarization Mode Dispersion Effects
High speed 10Gb/s and 40 Gb/s optical Ethernet and SONET or SDH transmission systems carrying multiwavelength channels are considered as the backbone of the next generation optical metro-networking technological development. Under this ultra-high speed transmission and networking, dispersion effects due to linear chromatic and polarization differential mode group delays and nonlinear effects of...

متن کاملHigh-speed All- Optical Time Division Multiplexed Node
In future high-speed self-routing photonic networks based on all-optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) it is highly desirable to carry out packet switching, clock recovery and demultplexing in the optical domain in order to avoid the bottleneck due to the optoelectronics conversion. In this paper we propose a self-routing OTDM node structure composed of an all-optical router and demultiplex...
